Hello :) UP was my 2nd choice =))) HAHA. Weird. =)) Ever since I was young I wanted to go to DLSU! I had my eyes set on CommArts & Adver. But my parents really wanted me to go to UP.

My mom learned about Fine Arts and their curriculum and she thought I should apply. UP is the best university here in the Philippines..and the fact that they have an art school kind of lured my parents into making me apply. First, I really didnt want to. I had this stereotype of artists who just paint for a living. I had no interest in drawing whatsoever. But I did what my mom wanted and tried out for UP FA.

After a few months I was convinced that I should take an art course. It was something I knew I could do and would enjoy doing. All through out high school, I’d be part or head of creative committees. I enjoyed craft projects! haha! but i never imagined it’d be my career. Thanks to my mom, I realized my long term relationship with art. She talked me into it and made me see how much potential I have. Luckily I passed (I sometimes question how I did but passing made me believe in myself. That I actually had talent haha! =)) ) My major is Visual Communication.

Maybe it really is bias but hey this is my opinion. Entering UP i think was the wisest decision I’ve made. Choosing UP was and will always be the best life choice for me. I knew it wasnt going to be easy for me at first but I tried to find out what FA had to offer. More than CommArts and Adver, Fine Arts teaches you SKILLS. I think that’s really important more than anything. The ability and drive to create a concept and visually execute it are amazing! The thing about FA is that, they teach you to do it yourself. If you have an idea, you should know how to do it and make it. It’s not just about ideas and telling others what to do. You cant expect that to happen all the time. You have to be independent when it comes to art & visual communication.

btw I’m not smart!! :)) I really am not I swear! Academic subjects hate me and I hate them too hehe. I couldnt even survive Math2 (see!) Btw, I was even supposed to go to Ateneo and spend a year there then move to UP if ever I failed the Talent Determination Test. :))

Hope you were enlightened with my college choice story! Think it over. What was the career you’ve always wanted and what are you good at? :)
